Field Guide Coral

A pocket field-guide scanner. Point a camera at a card or a plant — or upload a photo — and this page measures the picture's colors and shapes, then offers a best GUESS from its small built-in field guide.

READ THIS FIRST — WHAT THIS IS AND IS NOT. This is a color/shape heuristic — not species identification, not a card grader, not a price source. It cannot tell you what a thing is. It can only say which invented guide entry your picture's measured colors and shapes resemble most. Every result below is headed GUESS for exactly that reason.

1 · Get a picture

The camera is never started on its own — only when you press the button above, and your browser will still ask permission. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere; a captured frame is drawn onto this page's canvas and stays on this device.

…or skip your own pictures entirely and test with a built-in SAMPLE image (abstract specimen art drawn by this page — not a photograph of anything real):

No picture yet. Start the camera, upload a photo, or pick a SAMPLE.

2 · The picture being scanned

Whatever lands here — camera frame, upload, or SAMPLE art — is shrunk to a small working copy and measured pixel by pixel, on this device only. The measured numbers (its “signature”) print in step 3, and the GUESS in step 4 rests on those numbers and nothing else.

3 · Measured signature (from the pixels, nothing else)

No signature yet — scan a picture first.

4 · Best GUESS from the field guide

No GUESS yet — scan a picture first. When one appears it will be labeled GUESS, it will show the measured features it rests on, and a weak resemblance will say so.

5 · The built-in field guide (all entries SAMPLE & synthetic)

Every entry below is invented for this prototype — a fictional specimen with a hand-set signature of the colors and shapes it is supposed to evoke. These are NOT real species, NOT real cards, and NOT real card data. A real guide would need real, verified reference pictures measured the same way; this one proves the matching machinery only.
