# WHAT TO TRY — A9 Scouter (Honest) ("Scouter Honest Amber")
Open `index.html` in a browser — ideally on a phone, or a laptop with a camera. Works offline; nothing leaves the tab.
1. **Read the honesty panel first.** It says, on the face of the device: this scouter measures light and motion in the camera frame — it cannot measure strength, health, identity, or intent, and any device that claims to is fiction. That panel is the product's thesis, not a disclaimer.
2. **Press START CAMERA and allow the camera.** The view appears under the reticle and every readout goes live, computed from the actual frames: mean luminance, contrast, motion index, dominant colour with its swatch, warm/cool, and a frame rate that is *counted* as the page processes frames — watch it settle at your device's real rate rather than a printed spec number.
3. **Move things and change the light.** Wave a hand: the motion index jumps, and falls back near zero when the scene is still. Cover the lens: luminance drops toward 0 and contrast collapses. Point at a bright window or lamp: the amber box locks onto that grid cell — it is labeled **brightest region**, because that is all it is. Point at something warm-lit, then at a blue-lit screen, and watch the warm/cool estimate flip on the mean R − mean B basis printed beside it.
4. **Deny the camera** (or open the page on a device/browser with no camera): the status line prints **UNAVAILABLE** with the reason — and the page is not dead, because of step 5.
5. **Upload a photo instead.** Pick any picture: luminance, contrast, dominant colour, warm/cool and the brightest region are measured from that still — and motion and frame rate honestly print **UNAVAILABLE**, because a single still image has neither.
6. **Press Stop camera.** The stream ends, the frame-rate and motion lines return to UNAVAILABLE, and the last measured frame's other readings stay on screen labeled as its readings.
