# WHAT TO TRY — B-12 Land Report ("Field Notebook Green")

Open `index.html` in any modern browser (double-click the file, or serve the folder). No install, no account. **It will not upload anything — there is nowhere for it to upload to.**

1. **Read the fence box first:** "Your file is read in this tab and never uploaded. Close the tab and it's gone." That sentence is the product.
2. **Read the SAMPLE report as preloaded:** 12 observations · 35 individuals · 6 distinct species · date range 2026-10-12 to 2026-10-18 · **Top species: Northern Cardinal — 9 individuals**. Per-species, the bars should run Cardinal 9 · Blue Jay 8 · Green Anole 6 · White Ibis 6 · Carolina Wren 3 · Great Egret 3.
3. **Edit the pasted CSV** — change one count, add a row. Every total, both tables, the bars, and the top-species line recompute as you type; nothing to submit.
4. **Break a row on purpose:** change a count to `many`, and delete a field from another row. A yellow box must appear naming both rows **by line number** ("2 rows couldn't be read: lines …"), and those rows must vanish from the totals — counted and confessed, never silently dropped.
5. **Test the quoted comma:** add a row with the location in quotes — `2026-10-19,White Ibis,2,"Pond, north side",Maya` — it must count as one observation at the single location `Pond, north side`.
6. **Clear the box completely.** The report must go honestly empty ("No observations yet…") — no species table, no fake zeros dressed up as data. Then hit **Reload SAMPLE data** to bring the demo back.
7. **Retitle and print:** type your own title (it replaces "Field Report (sample)" at the top of the document), press **Print / Save as PDF**, and check the preview: only the report — title, totals, tables — with none of the input boxes, buttons, or fence chrome. That preview is the landowner document.
8. **Load a real file:** use the file picker with any CSV export in the documented shape (an iNaturalist-style export trimmed to the five columns works). It is read in the tab; disconnect from the network first if you want to watch it work anyway.

The real test this prototype is staging for: one real bioblitz export in, one printed report handed to a landowner, timed against hand-building the same report from the raw CSV. That run is a separate commission — this page proves the parser, the arithmetic, and the printed shape are worth trusting.
