# WHAT TO TRY — B5 Find the Thing I Saved ("Darkroom Ledger")
Open `index.html` in any modern browser (double-click the file, or serve the folder). No install, no account. **The pairing, up front: B-05 is the FIND half of one build — B-02 Photo Rent Escape shipped the home-vault import/report half; this page is how you find the thing once it's home.**
## First, with no files at all (the SAMPLE screenshots)
1. **Read the fence box first:** nothing is uploaded, and nothing is stored after this tab closes. That sentence is the product.
2. **The grid loads with 4 synthetic SAMPLE screenshots** — a recipe card, an address note, a receipt, a map sketch — all invented, all stamped SAMPLE, all drawn by the page itself.
3. **Search `recipe`** → only the recipe card. Search **`willow`** → only the address note (that word is *inside* the note, not its filename — in-screenshot text search working). Search **`10.50`** → only the receipt. Search **`river`** → only the map sketch.
4. **Search a date: `2026-10`** → the address note and the receipt. Clear the box → all 4 return.
5. **Click any card** → full-size view with its facts: name, date, size, source, and the matched text snippet.
6. **Search nonsense (`zzz`)** → the honest empty state, not a dressed-up zero.
## Then, with the tool (your own folder, still fully local)
7. **Build an index:** in a terminal, run `python3 find_saved.py /path/to/a/screenshots/folder` beside this file. It prints its OCR verdict out loud — on a machine without tesseract you will see **"OCR: UNAVAILABLE … filenames/dates only; the house OCR bench (PaddleOCR lane) is the upgrade path."** That is the honest state, not an error: `.txt`/`.md` files are still indexed by their full contents.
8. **Load the `index.json`** it wrote, using the index picker on the page. The note under the picker reports the row count and the index's OCR status. Search now covers the indexed text as well as names and dates.
9. **Load the same folder** with the folder picker — index rows with matching filenames pick up their real pictures in the grid and the full-size view.
10. **Close the tab.** Reopen the page: everything is gone — the samples return, your files and index do not. Nothing was stored; that is the check.
The real test this prototype is staging for: the QS-01 challenge from the Listening Sweep — 10 real "find the thing I saved" hunts against manual camera-roll scrolling, timed. That run needs a real screenshots folder and (for full in-image search) the house OCR bench wired in — see CUTLIST-B5.md.
