What to try — burn-note

# WHAT TO TRY — Item A3-3: Self-Destructing Message (Burn After Reading Slate)

**Open the demo:** double-click `index.html` in this folder (`wave-a3/a3-3-burn-note/index.html`) in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. No install, no server, no internet needed for the demo. It is one single file.

**⚠ HOUSEHOLD PROTOTYPE — SAMPLE DATA ONLY. Try it with made-up notes first.**

> This item is about the message only — no explosive, incendiary, or destructive-carrier anything, ever.

The "self-destruct" here is data deletion, nothing physical.

## Try the demo, in order (about 3 minutes)

1. **Watch the self-test (10 seconds, nothing to do).** The amber-bordered box at the top runs by itself: create → first open → second open. It should end with **SELF-TEST: PASS ✓** and 5 numbered lines. If it says FAIL, stop and tell Muse which browser you used.
2. **Create a burn note.** In the left panel, leave the sample note or type your own made-up note, pick the 1-minute timer, and tap **Create Burn Link**. A link appears — everything after the `#` is the key.
3. **Open it once.** Tap **Copy Link**, paste the whole link into the right panel, and tap **Open — This Burns It**. Your exact note comes back, with a note that the record was deleted before it was decrypted.
4. **Try to open it again.** Paste the same link again and tap Open. You must get the burned state: **BURNED / GONE** — already opened, timed out, or never existed, and nothing left to recover. That refusal is the whole item.
5. **Try the timer.** Create another note on the 1-minute timer, wait for the minute to pass (don't open it), then try its link. Same burned state — the timer burned it without anyone reading it.
6. **Try it as a real link.** Create a note, copy its link, and paste it into the browser's address bar in a new tab of the same browser. The page loads with the link filled in — tap Open when ready. (It does not auto-open on load, so an accidental load doesn't spend the one view.)

## Try the real server (optional, about 5 minutes, owner-run)

The demo above *is* the service logic. The real server does the same thing across devices on the home network:

1. Open a terminal in this folder: `wave-a3/a3-3-burn-note/`
2. Run exactly:
   `python3 burn_server.py --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8765`
You should see the banner, including the fence line and "localhost/LAN household use."
3. Leave it running and tell Muse — the next step (creating a note through the server from a second device or browser) is a follow-up commission; this prototype's page demo is the owner-test surface for A3-3.
4. Stop the server with **Ctrl+C** when done. Its state file is `burn_store.json` beside the script — after notes burn, look inside: burned ciphertext is gone from the file, not just marked.

## What you're looking for

- Self-test PASS on load, every time.
- First open → exact note back. Second open → burned state, every time.
- Timer-expired note → burned state, without ever being read.
- Nothing asks you to sign in; the demo works with Wi-Fi off.
