# WHAT TO TRY — Item 2: The Dead Drop (Vault Green)
**Open it:** double-click `index.html` in this folder (`02-deaddrop/index.html`) in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. No install, no server, no internet needed. It is one single file.
**⚠ HOUSEHOLD PROTOTYPE — SAMPLE DATA ONLY. Do not put a real secret in it yet — try it with made-up notes first.**
## Try these, in order (about 3 minutes)
1. **Watch the self-test (10 seconds, nothing to do).** As soon as the page opens, the green-bordered box at the top runs by itself. It should end with **SELF-TEST: PASS ✓** and 4 numbered lines. If it says FAIL, stop and tell Muse which browser you used — don't trust the page in that browser.
2. **Seal a note.** In the left panel (🔒 Seal a Note): leave the sample message or type your own made-up note, type a passphrase you'll remember for the test (e.g. `purple tiger 42`), and tap **Seal It**. A long block of text starting with `{ "v":1 …` appears — that is your sealed blob.
3. **Open it back.** Tap **Copy Blob**, paste it into the right panel (🔓 Open a Drop), type the *same* passphrase, tap **Open Drop**. Your exact note should come back.
4. **Try the wrong key on purpose.** Clear the Open panel, paste the same blob again, but type a *wrong* passphrase. It must refuse: **"Vault stayed shut."** That refusal is the whole point — a wrong passphrase gets nothing, not a garbled version.
5. **Try Download.** Seal again and tap **Download .txt** — you get `dead-drop-sealed.txt`, the carry-anywhere form of the drop.
6. **Run the self-test again** with the **↻ Run Self-Test Again** button, just to see it pass on demand.
## What you're looking for
- Self-test PASS on load, every time.
- Right passphrase → exact note back. Wrong passphrase → clear refusal, empty result.
- Nothing asks you to sign in, and the page works with Wi-Fi off (after it's open) — all the locking happens inside your browser.
