# WHAT TO TRY — Q-Branch Item 8 · THE VALET LOG

**For Chris · 2026-10-31 · Companion to `DOSSIER-8.md`**

This item is a **dossier only — there is nothing to install, open, or test yet.** What there is: one read, three small decisions, and one optional 15-minute overnight test that you run only if you say so.

## Read (2 minutes)

- `DOSSIER-8.md` §2.5 (the summary table) and §5 (the grade). The whole concept in one line: **every tool already in the car goes silent when the car is parked — except a spare phone, which is the pattern the RF Detector fleet already proved in that same car.**

## Decide (one tap each, skip any)

1. **The fiction vs. the honest version** — is the phone-as-sensor Valet Log (motion/jolt + heartbeat, events to the house correlator) the version worth pursuing, or does this item park here as a dossier?
2. **The Dragy question it surfaced** — the Dragy Lab still owes Step 0: *which Dragy model is yours, actually?* One look at the unit (port + markings) settles it and upgrades §2.2 of the dossier either way.
3. **ConnectedDrive** — the dossier deliberately does **not** build on BMW's cloud telematics. If you ever want its subscription state read for the record, that's a separate word from you; silence keeps it untouched.

## Try — only if you approve it (the §6 fixture, ~15 owner-minutes total)

- **Night (~10 min):** charge the RF fleet's Samsung handset, open the sensor logger Muse stages for you, put the phone in the 540i's center console, lock the car. Close one door firmly and rock the car once, and note the time — that's the test's ground truth.
- **Morning (~5 min):** pick up the phone, note how warm it is and what battery is left, and send Muse the log (or just tell Muse the times and the battery number — Muse grades the rest).
- **What you get back:** a one-page fixture verdict — did it hear all night, did it catch both touches, how many false alarms — and the dossier's grade either rises to BUILDABLE-NOW or falls in print.

**Safety note, plain:** do the first night at home on a mild night, and stop the idea cold if the phone comes out hot — a battery baking in a Florida parked car is the one real risk in this item, and no gadget is worth it.

**Nothing happens without your word:** no phone goes in the car, no test runs, and no producer gets built from this dossier alone.
