# WHAT TO TRY — Item 5 · Watch Tap Signal ("Signal Brass")

**Open:** `index.html` in this folder — best on your phone (that's where the buzz works). No install, no account, works offline.

1. **Send each signal.** Tap CHECK-IN, COME-HERE, ALL-CLEAR, DISTRESS. Feel the buzz pattern and read the JSON that appears — that's the exact `house.event/1` event the tap *would* put on the house spine. Nothing actually sends.
2. **Learn by feel.** Scroll to "Receive demo" and fire each *Incoming* pattern with your eyes closed. By the fourth one you should be able to call them: 2 short = check-in, ends-long = come-here, 1 long = all-clear, 3-3-3 = distress.
3. **Check the fence.** Notice DISTRESS says CHECK, not CONFIRM, and "never automated action" — on purpose (Defense Ruling 1: the system proposes, you actuate).
4. **Read the codebook** (`TAP-CODEBOOK.md`, 2 minutes) if you want the timing numbers and the learning/confusion notes.

**If vibration does nothing:** desktop browsers mostly don't vibrate — the page says so instead of pretending. The JSON + flash demo still work everywhere.

**Your call after trying:** is four signals the right size? Any signal you'd rename, add, or cut goes straight into the codebook as a dated revision.
